Physical Education overview

On this page you can find out about the curriculum at our school.

We follow the National Curriculum for England which was revised in 2014.

A full copy of the National Curriculum is available below.

We deliver our school curriculum through discrete English and Mathematics teaching and by integrating the other National Curriculum subjects into a themed approach of delivery.

The National Curriculum is broken down into teaching units within the Key Learning documents.

A copy of our curriculum overview is available below. This shares the themes taught in each Year group.

Copies of our year group overviews and detailed teaching units are also available for viewing in our class pages.

Copies of Key Learning documents for all subjects are also available below, these are used for planning and assessment.

In the Early Years Foundation Stage we follow the EYFS Statutory Framework 2017. The framework is an integrated approach to early learning and care. It gives all professionals a set of common principles and commitments to deliver quality early education and childcare experiences to all children.

Creative Curriculum

We value a creative approach to learning at Caslon. Although there are broad topic titles which provide a scaffold from which to teach statutory National Curriculum content, our staff are skilled at being creative in their planning and delivery and will also follow the interests of our pupils.

Our creative work is celebrated through a termly ‘Open Day and Creative Exhibition’ where books, art work and homework projects are displayed throughout the school. We welcome visits from parents to come and enjoy the high quality work and displays that our pupils produce.

Homework projects go hand in-hand with these creative topics are offer a menu of opportunities to continue learning at home. Every contribution is valued and rewarded with termly certificates. Our pupils take great pride in these.

Read Around the World

Developing a love of reading is of great importance to us at Caslon. We offer a range of different reading schemes which capture the interest of a variety of pupils and meet a range of needs.

Early reading is taught through our own Phonics Programme which begins in Nursery and continues through the year groups according to progress with a focus on meeting the needs of individuals.

Application of phonic knowledge in reading and writing is crucial and our phonic displays, sound mats and quality teaching ensure this takes place.

Children are encouraged to read at home on a daily basis and can work towards rewards on our home reading programme, ‘Read Around the World’.  This rewards pupils who read for regular amounts of time at home, working their way to the capital cities on every continent.

SEND

We aim to identify additional needs of pupils at Beecher Bear Daycare and Nursery and Caslon Primary Community School as early as possible to ensure that we plan suitable interventions, booster groups and one-to-one programmes to support each pupil in making the very best progress they possibly can.

Our Special Educational Needs (SEN) and/or Disabilities (D) & Inclusion Policy can be downloaded here.

The SENCo at Caslon Primary Community School is Mr Wagstaff. Should you have any concerns, queries or questions then please do not hesitate to contact her.
