Welcome to the Year One class page
Class Teacher: Mrs Root Teaching Assistant: Mrs Hadley and Mrs Wedgeburrow
Welcome to our class page. Here you will find all of the information that you need to know about our class as well as any exciting news about what we have been getting up to in class.
I hope you had a lovely time over the summer and I can’t believe we’ve had 2 days and the children have settled so well to Year 1!
I am looking forward to getting to know everyone and working together so that we have a very exciting and productive year. I hope that you enjoy the new challenges and approaches to learning that Year 1 has to offer!
Transition from Reception to Year 1
Our aim is to ensure that the children experience a smooth transition from the Foundation Stage to Key Stage One. The Year 1 curriculum builds upon and extends the experiences that children had in Reception. Learning through play will continue to be an important part of the school day, and the children will gradually be eased into more formal learning as the year goes on so that they remain motivated, enthused and eager learners. Please don’t hesitate to come and see me after school if you have any questions or queries. To encourage independence the children will continue to walk to class on their own from the playground. Please see the teachers in the playground if you have information in the morning.
Reading in Year 1…
The reading will continue in Year 1 this year the children have a lovely reading diary with their reading book. The children will have a specific day when their book is changed. I will message you their day. They will need to keep their reading diary and book together and come in to school every day. They may be heard by volunteers at any time so they need their books every day not just the day the book is changed. The children will also have lots of opportunities to read and enjoy books throughout the week at school and at home.
Forest School – children will be starting Forest School on Friday 14th September. The children will need a change of clothes that day and as the weather gets wetter wellies. We now have a class set of waterproofs so the children go out in the wet too. They will be spending 2 hours outside every Friday. I will keep you updated as to what the children need throughout the year. Unless you hear otherwise on the class dojo the children will be doing Forest School every Friday.
This will also continue children will be chosen by their behaviour and attitude the day before. The children will also be given jobs to do everyday to help the class run smoothly and so they can take ownership of the routines too.
- The children will be doing PE on Monday. Please ensure your child has their PE kit in school and that all items are clearly labelled. Also make sure the children do not have their earrings in that day.
- Any letters or reply slips, which need to be returned, can be put in your child’s book bag. The children are encouraged to check them each morning and give things in after the register.
- Children will continue to have their fruit for snack in the morning and can continue to bring in their own tuck as before.
- The children will need to bring their own water bottle to keep in class which they can access throughout the day and they will change their water regularly. Please make sure your child’s name is written clearly on their water bottle.
