School council workshop at Black Country Living Museum

Last week we took our school council to a very special workshop at the Black Country Living Museum. The event offered the students the opportunity to appreciate the vast and varied career paths available in the construction industry in addition to the role it plays within everyday life.

On the day, our pupils had the opportunity to go ‘behind the hoardings’ on the new Forging Ahead construction project and had a go at construction skills, including plastering, brick laying and painting! They also took part in a bridge building workshop with the Institute of Mechanical Engineers focussing on the skills of mechanical engineers. We were told that one of our groups produced the strongest bridge out of all the schools over the past two days, including some high schools! Finally, we had a tour of the museum with our very own tour guide. What a fantastic day!
