OPAL At Caslon

Caslon is thrilled to announce that we are launching the Outdoor Play and Learning (OPAL) programme!
OPAL transforms playtimes by helping schools develop richer, more dynamic outdoor environments. Grounded in research on 18 key cultural and environmental factors, the programme fosters creativity, resilience, cooperation, and overall well-being. By embedding OPAL into our daily routine, we aim to encourage active, inclusive, and joyful play that supports positive behaviour across the school day.
At Caslon, we are exceptionally proud of our OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) journey. We are currently working towards full OPAL Accreditation, reflecting our whole-school commitment to the profound value of high-quality play.
We believe that play is a vital part of childhood and essential for holistic development. Through OPAL, our pupils are encouraged to be:
- Active & Resilient: Embracing physical challenges and learning to navigate manageable risks.
- Creative & Curious: Exploring loose parts, open-ended materials, and imaginative storytelling.
- Collaborative & Inclusive: Forming positive friendships across year groups and problem-solving together.
- Connected to Nature: Engaging with living environments, sensory textures, and seasonal changes.
How can parents get involved?
Parents can play a big part in making OPAL a success. You might be able to help by donating resources, sharing ideas or skills, supporting development days, or simply chatting with us about what your child enjoys at playtime.
